Can you Be Strong

Can you be gentle no matter what
Can you be loving with all that you’ve got
Can be tolerant, allowing and free
Can you accept things just like you see

Can you replenish so you have enough
And be responsible for your own stuff
Can you get strength from your self inside
Can you contain your own hurt, your own pride

Can you survive life’s crushing blows
And notice the feedback it teaches and shows
Can you find comfort and nurture yourself
And pick yourself up, put you back on the shelf

Can you look outward and see other’s pain
And not weigh it up against what you might gain
Or lose or account for and separate out
Your loss from their loss, and what it’s about

Is your mind open, is your heart clean,
What will you do when you want to be mean?
How will you handle your anger or hurt?
Can you sling flowers instead of dirt?
